SSL Performance
The SSL protocol performs computation-intensive calculations for each user session. Processing secure transactions is especially unforgiving on server processors. Recent studies revealed that Web servers take significant performance hits when handling SSL traffic – some operating at only 7 percent of normal capacity. These results translate into instances when more than 90 percent of Web users are turned away because servers cannot process connections fast enough.
