What is PipeBoost™?
PipeBoost™ is an HTTP compression utility that runs on Internet Information Services. It compresses web pages and content that is downloaded to a browser running on a customer or end user’s computer. Top How will PipeBoost™ save me money?
PipeBoost™ provides significantly faster customer/end user content downloads and reduced Telecommunication Cost. Smaller files mean fewer packets, less bandwidth and faster transmission times. Top How does PipeBoost™ Work?
The Microsoft Internet Information Server® holds the site web pages. A customer requests either static or dynamic page (HTML, ASP, XML, style sheet etc). The server first determines if the customer has a compatible browser. If the browser is compatible, it then pushes down a compressed version of the page to the client. The customer’s browser then decompresses the file and displays it. Only the compressed version of the page is sent. The compression process requires a slight increase in CPU utilization for compression/decompression both on the server and client side. Up to 1/10 of the original file size with virtually no additional processor load. Content is compressed prior to SSL encryption and sites employing SSL also reap significant performance increases. Top Who Benefits by using PipeBoost™?
Any customer tired of long download times. Large companies with large networks, using browser-based client server applications over a LAN or WAN networks employing IIS especially over token ring networks or those with high traffic volumes. Any IIS Internet service provider can experience reduced packet transmission, bandwidth overhead and significant reduction in download time. Top What is required to run PipeBoost™?
A server running Microsoft® Internet Information Server 4.0, 5.0 & 5.1 operating with one of the following operating systems Microsoft® NT.4.0, Windows 2000 or XP is all that is required. Top Do I need any special hardware?
No. Top Does PipeBoost™ run as a separate application?
No, PipeBoost™ operates within the Internet Information Services and is configured and accessed through the management console. Top Does the end user or customer have to install anything to use PipeBoost™?
No, all compression is server-based and is transparent to the customer or end user. The client browser already has the functionality built-in to handle the compressed files. Top How much of an improvement can I see over uncompressed HTTP files ?
It depends on the files that are compressed but it is not unusual to get 50 to 1 compression. The files will down load from 3 to 6 times faster than using existing technologies. Top Is PipeBoost™ difficult to install or do I need any special skill?
No, it is easier to install then most modern software applications. Top Will PipeBoost™ slow my server down?
Web servers are under-utilized as far as the CPU is concerned. Why not put the CPU time to good use? Top Will I be able to measure the savings?
Yes, PipeBoost™ provides both Statistical Performance Monitoring/Reporting and Usage Monitoring/Reporting (Performance Counters). Top What files will PipeBoost™ compress/optimize ?
PipeBoost™ works on any content type that can be compressed – All web content pages HTM, TXT, ASP, XML, XSL, CSS, BMP, DOC, XLS, MDB etc. Click Here to see content types compression ratios. Top Where can I buy PipeBoost™ software?
